What you’ll study
In this programme, you will develop three distinct skills required for effective leadership in international business:
- Critical approach to problem-solving.
- Effective communication skills.
- Insight into your own professional development.
Career opportunity and advancement
These three skills are vital for professional adaptability and employability across industries, functions and roles. As a graduate, you may find positions in a full spectrum of industries including healthcare and medicine, defence and aerospace, management consultancy, transport logistics and distribution, and accountancy and audit. You will also benefit throughout your career from the ethical, socially responsible and international themes that underpin all programme content.
You should normally have, or be about to complete, a 2:2 undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification). Alternatively, we would accept a Masters degree (or equivalent).
If you earned your undergraduate degree outside of the UK, you should check that it is equivalent to a 2:2. Our country-specific pages can help you to find out. Your degree can be in any subject, though knowledge of relevant areas will be beneficial, including:
- Management or Business Studies.
- Finance or Accounting.
- Other subject areas/joint degrees with substantial modules in Management, Finance/Accounting or Economics (e.g. economics and quantitative methods).
- Applicants with experience in a managerial role without the specified academic qualification may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
If English isn't your first language you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. We accept the following qualifications:
- IELTS: 6.5, with a minimum of 6.5 in Writing and no less than 6.0 in all other components.
- PTE: 61, with a minimum of 61 in Writing and no less than 55 in all other components.
- CAE and CPE (from January 2015): 176, with a minimum of 176 in Writing and no less than 169 in all other components.
- TOEFL: 87, with a minimum of 23 in Writing and a minimum of 21 in all other components.
- TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition: 87, with a minimum of 23 in Writing and a minimum of 21 in all other components.
- Trinity ISE: level 3 with Merit in all components.
- Duolingo – minimum overall score of 115.
You need to have completed the test within two years of the start date of your programme. You cannot combine scores from more than one sitting of the test.
You will not need to provide evidence of your English language abilities:
- If you're from a specified majority English-speaking country.
- If you've completed a degree in English in a specified country within two years of your intended start date.
Practising Strategy (15 credits)
Underpinning the programme, this module introduces key concepts and techniques in innovation and business leadership, and management in public, private and third-sector organisations. You will learn to apply theories of strategic management in their practice.
Operations Management (15 credits)
This module explores the nature of operations management and its impact on competitiveness, through examination of operations strategy; process and product design;quality, performance and supply chain management; and project management.
Finance for Business (15 credits)
Finance for Business aims to equip non-financial managers with core tools and techniques to be able to analyse financial performance, evaluate alternative sources of finance, explore different financial investment appraisal tools and evaluate the utility of financial information during decision making.
Leading and Managing People (15 credits)
This module aims to provide a comprehensive review of the theory and practice of organisational behaviour and HR management, including leadership, team dynamics and culture, recruitment and selection, rewards, and diversity and ethics in the workplace.
Essentials of Marketing and Ethics in Global Business (15 credits)
Long-term customer and stakeholder relationships underpin business success. This module examines the role of marketing and ethical behaviour in creating that success, in the image of an organisation and the communication of brand. You will explore these concepts and practices across all business sectors and develop practical skills in writing a global marketing plan.
Cross-Cultural Management and Negotiation (15 credits)
Develop an understanding of the influence of culture on management and leadership practices and success; identify, successfully, the impact of cultural variation on business practice; recognise the principles of negotiation and plan, conduct and assess negotiations in practice.
International Sales Leadership (15 credits)
Today’s selling environment is complex, global and diverse; this gives rise to a wide range of challenges in leading sales and sales teams. Aspects of this module include buying and selling in theory; applying practice in the knowledge economy; sales and technology; sales planning and forecasting and leading an international salesforce.
Contemporary Issues in International Business (15 credits)
The module introduces core theories of international business, trade and investment, exploring how firms, states and institutions of global governance interact to shape the contemporary global business market.
Research Methods (15 credits)
This module introduces a range of research methods and types of research projects. You will learn how to formulate a research question and to find answers using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Research Proposal (15 credits)
This module is a chance for you to plan independent research into either a current issue in management practice or a more theoretical problem. You will analyse relevant literature, develop a research plan and identify any ethical issues associated with your chosen topic.
Independent Research Project (30 credits)
By undertaking a longer piece of sustained research, reflection and writing, you will demonstrate: critical analytical skills; the ability to gather and synthesise data and literature from a range of sources; and subject specific knowledge. This will draw upon skills and knowledge acquired through your whole degree, including self and time management. You’ll work under the guidance of a personal supervisor with expertise in the subject you’re studying. They’ll help you develop research questions and identify methods and theories to investigate and analyse your topic.
